Over at Middle of the Melon, hpmelon takes issue with my post seeking an actress for my upcoming short in a post called "Barely Reason." I think what she has to say is worth a look, for certain.
I would defend the play in detail, but my guess is that it speaks for itself rather nicely.
We did, for the record, find an actress for the role.

I dig Ms. MidMelon's objection to the Standards of Decency project--tho I must point out that she has a very unfortunate anti-porn blog handle.
As one of the project's initiators, I'm still apprehensive about how the nudity is going to play. On the other hand, the object of the exercise was to get playwrights to imgaine nudity onstage in ways that *couldn't* be cut out or dressed over without ruining the entire thing. The project was imagined as an antidote to the superfluous nudity that Melon complains about.
Whether the project succeeds, well...no one will ever agree about it anyway. That's my final word. Suck it, libs.

I will also point out to Kyle that I actually have no objection to Standards of Decency, none whatsoever. Hopefully he will read my post again and see that.

I think it's fair to say this type of thing is intended to bring up questions about its appropriateness.
Kyle may be right, though... if everyone agreed about this sort of thing, the Project wouldn't be worth the effort.
I'm a little late to this party... I'm not quite "hip" to this whole "blog thing." But then, I got my first computer circa 2001.
I happen to have been nude or nudeish onstage 4 times, once my Father was in the audience... I ASKed him to come. I have also been asked and said NO - and I ALSO got the part anyway because the originator of the idea was just looking for a cheap thrill... and THAT is what I would call "objectification."
Prior to accepting this role I read the script and had an in-depth discussion re: what Matt was trying to accomplish with it. Based on that knowledge I was happy to become involved with the project. I don't mean to sound snarky... BUT, as a woman who, frankly, looks pretty damn good with her clothes off - I'd LIKE our society to get to the point where the mere MeNtIoN of the concept no longer makes people like you squirm...
Guess what? I'm naked EVERY day! It's just next week you get to share the fun ; )
