John Updike passed away this week. I met him once when I was in high school, at an event in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, when he was reading short stories by his mother. He was incredibly gracious.
I think I'm going to re-read Rabbit, Run. I was too young the first time.
Anyone out there an Updike fan? Any particular favorites? Any thoughts on the passing?
I loved "Gertrude & Claudius" and "The Witches of Eastwick".
ReplyDeleteDitto to Gertrude and Claudius, which is a surprisingly complete work of re-imagination. But yeah, for the full Updike, go with the Rabbit series, which now play as much as time capsules as literature (for me, anyway)
