Unproducible?

I've heard the term "unproducible play" here and there lately. Is there such a thing? Or is that code for something?

  1. I think it's just French for "expensive." I call a couple of my old scripts unproducible because of the attendant logistical/financial migraines in bringing certain aspects of the show to life. I submit if that term's being thrown around, it's theatre people being dramatic; shocking, I know.

  2. To me it means, "This would be better of as a screenplay. Why are you writing plays when you'd clearly rather be writing for film?"

  3. Politically incorrect plays are often unproducable or banned.
