Last week I posted this, about end-of-year giving to the theater company you care about.
I'd like to ask a question about your own giving strategy.
Do you tend to give whatever you can to a single arts organization, to maximize your impact? Or do you give a little to lots of smaller companies, to spread the wealth around? Or, do you not contribute in this way? Do you simply buy tickets as a way to show support?
As a low income artist, I chose to give of my time rather than my money. Ushering, helping with mailings, painting a green room, sorting costumes - those are things I can do to help without putting myself in debt.
ReplyDeleteSame as SMLois. I'd love to give time and energy rather than money, but no one takes me up on it. *shrug*
ReplyDeleteSince I'm on a relatively fixed income, I prefer to buy a ticket. This is ironic, considering that I'm fundraising for my own play now. But when given the choice, I prefer buying tickets.
I "tend to give whatever you can to a single arts organization", which is a "smaller company", and then I do that for 6 to 8 other groups throughout the year. And I'm usually giving to a theater where I've bought tickets, if they sell them. I'm fortunate that my day-gig has a matching gift program, so whatever I give gets doubled about 3 months later. So basically, all of the above.
