Give to your favorite theater company (part two)

Last week I posted this, about end-of-year giving to the theater company you care about.

I'd like to ask a question about your own giving strategy.

Do you tend to give whatever you can to a single arts organization, to maximize your impact? Or do you give a little to lots of smaller companies, to spread the wealth around? Or, do you not contribute in this way? Do you simply buy tickets as a way to show support?

  1. As a low income artist, I chose to give of my time rather than my money. Ushering, helping with mailings, painting a green room, sorting costumes - those are things I can do to help without putting myself in debt.

  2. Same as SMLois. I'd love to give time and energy rather than money, but no one takes me up on it. *shrug*

Since I'm on a relatively fixed income, I prefer to buy a ticket. This is ironic, considering that I'm fundraising for my own play now. But when given the choice, I prefer buying tickets.

  3. I "tend to give whatever you can to a single arts organization", which is a "smaller company", and then I do that for 6 to 8 other groups throughout the year. And I'm usually giving to a theater where I've bought tickets, if they sell them. I'm fortunate that my day-gig has a matching gift program, so whatever I give gets doubled about 3 months later. So basically, all of the above.
