- Matthew Freeman is a Brooklyn based playwright with a BFA from Emerson College. His plays include THE DEATH OF KING ARTHUR, REASONS FOR MOVING, THE GREAT ESCAPE, THE AMERICANS, THE WHITE SWALLOW, AN INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR, THE MOST WONDERFUL LOVE, WHEN IS A CLOCK, GLEE CLUB, THAT OLD SOFT SHOE and BRANDYWINE DISTILLERY FIRE. He served as Assistant Producer and Senior Writer for the live webcast from Times Square on New Year's Eve 2010-2012. Matt -- Just why is it that we Dems can never quite be...happy...about...anything?
Oh don't get me wrong! I AM happy. But it's hard not to be frustrated, and it's hard not to express it.
Our victories yesterday, and Rumsfeld's resignation today, can't help but make everyone a little lighter on their toes.
I think the frustration is that it took this long and this much effort to bring people to essentially simple truths. Iraq was never a good idea: it was always doomed, fabricated on lies, and was invented for political and financial gain by very bad men. The idea that Bush was elected once (not the first time) and was able to push his terrifying worldview onto this much of the American public, for so long, makes them "coming to their senses" a little sour.
