Now this is easy!

Mark notes a modest fundraising endeavor that could easily be achieved by all of us before 5pm today. For a library! Who doesn't love libraries?

Go here, read about it, donate. Donate $25. Seriously, you can afford that.

UPDATE:

Hey, now this is a very nice thing. I posted that at around 11:00 am or so. It is 11:22 am by my watch. The goal has been met already. Great job Mark and Isaac and all others who put this out there.

Let's face it: this could be a very real and important part of blogs for theater.

I'll go a step further. Here's my little pledge:

If you are a theater company in the midst of a campaign to raise funds, and you e-mail me with you goals, needs and the way to donate, I will direct people to your efforts and post about it.

Really? Anyone? Because I'm not sure I'm down with that.

Don't get me wrong, what you're describing is one of the best uses of blogging. But no knowledge about the quality of what we’d be supporting? How would readers ever make a determination about what to support? I mean, there’s a reason I give my tiny bit of money to 13P rather than the Roundabout OR rather than Joe Schmo’s vanity project. I want to “be the change I wish to see” by advocating the sort of work I think is important. With no criteria for inclusion, I wouldn’t be able to do that.

Better to cross that particular bridge when I come to it. It seems unlikely that an American Nazi Party theater company is about to appear on the scene and demand I ask everyone to support them.

I figure if something comes up that's somehow offensive to my sensibilities, that's ok with me. Otherwise, bring 'em on.

I'm not even talking about something that is somehow ideologically objectionable, though? What about if it sucks/is regressive/is a vanity project/is made by artists you cannot vouch for? Seems odd for you to put your credibility on the line just for someone on the other end of an email address.

Fair enough. Not worth worrying about unless it becomes a problem. Which I don't anticipate. In the meantime, I'll happily refer to fundraising efforts for theater companies on this blog. I'll put my money where my mouth is until my mouth writes a check my butt can't cash.

Or something like that.
