- Matthew Freeman is a Brooklyn based playwright with a BFA from Emerson College. His plays include THE DEATH OF KING ARTHUR, REASONS FOR MOVING, THE GREAT ESCAPE, THE AMERICANS, THE WHITE SWALLOW, AN INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR, THE MOST WONDERFUL LOVE, WHEN IS A CLOCK, GLEE CLUB, THAT OLD SOFT SHOE and BRANDYWINE DISTILLERY FIRE. He served as Assistant Producer and Senior Writer for the live webcast from Times Square on New Year's Eve 2010-2012. So glad others found this article as stupid as I did.
When I wrote about it on my blog, some commenter told me that I was missing the point and that theatres and artists should just be happy that somebody might attend a reading because of they read in the NYT that it might afford them bragging rights.
Sigh. I think that you're not the one missing the point, Ian.
I'll say! A lot of the actors I see at staged readings are ones I've already seen on stage! Hell, some of them are friends of mine! I really need to start attending the ones with movie stars!
