For the record

This is the statement by Dr. Wright that is being considered so "repugnant" by the MSM:

“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God bless America’? No, no, no. Not God bless America. God Damn America.”

This statement doesn't bother me. I don't see what the big deal is here. Except that a black leader was angry at the government on TV.

Perhaps it was the "God Damn America" bit that was so inflamatory.

Just guessing.

Oh sure. I get that. I just think, you know, I've said worse things when I stub my big toe. And my big toe never, you know, tried to authorize torture or justify a war on lies.

Just saying. You can love this country and curse it's faults.

It's only in public that we become shocked...SHOCKED I say...by such behavior. Get some of my friends drunk, and you'll hear a lot worse about this country.

Did you listen to NPR by chance this morning? There was a good segment about this. I haven't had enough caffiene at this point to recap it, but the Reverend definitely takes an inflamatory stance on race and the gov't, etc. The segment goes on to dissect Obama's probable political reasons for originally becoming a member of that church and how it's affecting him now. And, the political discourse about race relations that it's opening up.

P.S. re: my cheeky post from earlier, I'm not "taking a side" on the issue. But I do think that there is a big difference from making public statements from a high profile position and getting drunk in a bar and saying the same things. Clearly, the whole thing is being dragged out to dig at Obama, but so far he is handling it with grace.
